Behind The Lens… Broken Earth
Welcome to my new feature Behind The Lens. A look at my favorite images and the story behind them. For this inagurial post I give you a look into a college assignment for Earth Day titled “Broken Earth”.
This is a composite image with two photos merged into one via Photoshop. The concept of this image is intended to show the fragility of our world. I cracked open an egg on a blue translucent plate and arranged the egg shell around it. Next I took a photo of a tennis ball sized globe and desaturated it making it transparent. I then resized it and placed it over the egg yolk. I used a Hasselblad 501 CM and Phase One digital back.
Simplicity and color come together to make this work. Yellow and blue along with white are the only colors. The cropping of the image and limited shapes add to the visual simplicity. There is nothing to distract the eye from the message of taking care of our world.
